We are pleased to announce that Boris Berman, acclaimed pianist and esteemed educator, will be joining the 2024 IHMS Festival from 28^th of July to 4^th of August.

With an impressive career spanning decades, Boris Berman is widely recognized as a leading figure in piano pedagogy. Named one of “The most wanted piano teachers in the USA,” Boris Berman has held the position of Professor of Piano at Yale University School of Music since 1984, where he also serves as the Coordinator of the Piano Department. In addition to his role at Yale, he has received honorary professorships from prestigious institutions such as the Shanghai Conservatory, the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, and the China Conservatory in Beijing.

The artistry of Boris Berman is well known to the audiences of more than fifty countries on six continents. His highly acclaimed performances have included appearances with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, The Philharmonia (London), the Toronto Symphony and many others. His mastery is also recorded on a large discography for a many of the renowned labels. Berman’s most recent discography shows the breadth of his repertoire: adisc “Debussy for Children” (Ottavo); two releases of works for prepared piano by John Cage (Naxos), which was named the Top Recording by the BBC Music Magazine; the Grammy-nominated Piano Quintets of Shostakovich and Schnittke with Vermeer Quartet (Naxos); and, quite unexpectedly, a recording of Scott Joplin’s Ragtimes (Ottavo).

Yale University Press published Boris Berman’s “Notes from the Pianist’s Bench” in 2000, exploring piano technique and interpretation. Berman, renowned as both performer and teacher, lectures worldwide on these topics, with the book translated into multiple languages. In 2008, Yale also released Berman’s “Prokofiev’s Piano Sonatas: A Guide for the Listener and the Performer,” complementing his acclaimed recordings.

Throughout his career, Boris Berman has conducted masterclasses and held residencies worldwide, offering students invaluable opportunities to benefit from his wealth of knowledge and experience. For more than 20 years, Boris Berman has been a welcomed teacher to the IHMS festival. Many students all around the world have received valuable masterclasses from him.
