Kwan Chak Lau
Hong Kong-born cellist Kwan Chak Lau (2002) began playing the cello at the age of 6. Since 2018, he has been studying at the Sächsisches Landesgymnasium für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and the concertmaster of the Dresden State Chapel, Norbert Anger. Previously, he was a junior student at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (2009-2017) with Hsin-Hsin Chang and the Assistant Principal Cello of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Laurent Perrin. He then studied in the class of Susanne Müller-Hornbach at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main. Kwan won 2nd prize at the Heran International Cello Competition in Czech 2015 and 1st prize at the 6th Ai Qin Bei International Violoncello Competition in Beijing China. On New Year's Day, he played a recital in AuTou Xiamen - Shostakovich - Cello Sonata, Piazzolla - The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires. In 2018, Kwan participated in the Chamber Music Project "Meister von heute und morgen" in Dresden, where he shared the stage Marie-Elisabeth Hecker, Pauline Sachse, Florian Uhlig and Friedemann Eichhorn. This year he participated in the chamber music project "Mit Musik - Miteinander" at Kronberg Academy.
