‘An energetic, fresh and highly professional string quartet with a great love for the stage and great music.’ The Vespucci Quartet, founded in 2009, has already been described in the press. And nothing too much is said about that. Whether the foursome plays contemporary repertoire, classical toppers or a combination of classical and modern, the programs are solid and the music sounds on the cutting edge. That is especially the case when the Vespucci Quartet puts two revolutionary composers side by side in the Ruïnekerk in Bergen NH. Both Beethoven and more than a century later Shostakovich changed the appearance of the string quartet with notes that are as stubborn as they are highly personal. With the Vespucci Quartet, Shostakovich’s Third String Quartet sounds like a penetrating sequel to Beethoven’s Twelfth Quartet.
